Two kinds of morons define mankind's evolution. Only one of them is meant to survive.
Some people are morons. Instead of dealing with their own problems, they consider it their purpose in life to offer themselves as dustbins for the problems and issues of others. Feeling needed, feeling - and if it just for a moment - the power of being able to help and change things for the better - even if it is just for others: This pattern defines social cripples who lock their own misery away - in the darkest corners of their soul - and believe to feel better (I am not going so far to say "happy"), because they proved themselves to be worthy. At least for someone else. But isn't this also the point? You reap what you sow. It is this hope, this childish belief that being good to others will eventually change your own life for the better - some call it karma.
But as I said: These people are morons. I am a moron. Empathy and compassion - these are not the essential characteristics that shape the human race. For it is the character traits found at the other end of the scale which are our incentive to strife for (character) development, for success and progress in life. Not caring for others fostered the evolution of mankind - no matter, whether for children, bloodkin, your tribe. What defined mankind's evolution until the present is something else - the intrinsic instinct of self-preservation. And this includes egoism, greed and envy. Because the neighbor always has something that would make my life better. Therefore, I need to have it, to take it. Since it is good for me, it was surely meant for me in the first place - and it is, therefore, rightfully mine (to take). I have the right to claim it.
What were the two important inventions that triggered the development of the United States of America up until its current state? It was the railway. And it was barb wire. Not just to keep your flock together, but to prevent it to be taken away from you, to be stolen. Why do we still have wars, although the previous have cost us so much already? Because after we get deprived of our property by the goverment (the ones supposed to protect us), we have to fight to survive in order to take back what used to be ours. And the "neighbor" still has the means for that, while I starve and suffer. Hence, these have to be rightfully mine. Irrelevant, whether it is a pig, a cow, a car or massive oil reservoirs, soil to plant my food - or a weapon to defend what I claimed as mine.
And so it starts again - the perpetuous back and forth between good and bad times, democracy and dictatorship, economic boom or starving, between investing in innovation or preserving our last belongings, between peace and war, between life and death. This pendulum will continue to swing back and fourth - from the left end of its range to the right. And back. The intermediates, these periods of peace, they are not meant to last. Only being torn between these extreme poles keep us from stagnation and triggers this drive for action. This is what brought mankind to its current stage of evolution - not judging now, whether a good or bad one. This made us what we are. And in the end, it will be our doom.
Mankind is not meant to last. It is not in our genes. Malice is what makes us survive. Because it makes us put ourselves first. Compassion and care for others will never do the job. This approach kills the ones who follow this path. They don't live for themselves, for their own wellbeing, but for the one of the others. They burn and than they fade away. It is a simple rule - the survival of the fittest.
I am not fit. My misery is locked away in the darkest corner of my heart, my brain, my soul. The rest is filled with the misery of others. Because I tried to take their pain away. But where to put it? There is nothing like a disposal site for that kind of waste. However, never expect these people to give back what you have done for them! Because these are not the ones who will help you in return when the time comes. They are the ones to survive, we are just stepping stones on their path to Valhalla. And there they will feast and drink to their victory. And us morons? We will bring them their ale, clean their puke that covers the floor. And then, we will cry alone in the dark. Too muffled to be heard - next to the roaring of the ruthless who won the fight. Who won everything. And we have lost the right to complain, to reclaim. Since everything we lost, we gave away willingly. Ourselves.
Because we are morons. And because we will never learn from our mistakes. Because we are humans. This is not the character trait that is meant to help mankind survive. Because this is weakness. Because of this stuborn repeating of self-harming patterns we lack the capacity to learn from mistakes. Cheers to the morons!
